Video: Florida Road Signs Recognition Tests

Learn the Florida Road Signs from Driver License Handbook

This video helps you study the Florida highway signs for your Florida driver’s license test or permit exam.

The Official Florida Driver License Handbook lists more than 60 Florida road signs you should be able to recognize. On the test, DMV can also ask you about the most common shapes and colors that are used for U.S. highway signs. Don’t skip this part of the handbook. New and young drivers often miss 1 out 2 questions about road signs.

There are 50 Questions on the Knowledge Exam

If you have never been licensed before, you must always pass a written knowledge test. All new drivers must also complete the Traffic Law and Substance Education course before applying for a license or permit in Florida.

The Florida Class E Knowledge Exam has 50 random questions. You must correctly answer at least 40 out of the 50 questions, which means you can only miss 10 questions.

Expect at least a handful questions on road signs and how to react when you see them.

If you already hold a valid driver’s license from another state, Canada, France, or South Korea, the written test is usually waived – but be sure to check with your local FLHSMV center or tax collector office.

Free Interactive Practice Tests

The best way to prepare for your Florida Class E Knowledge Exam is to thoroughly study the Driver License Handbook and then take several practice tests.

With these practice tests you’ll get instant feedback and will learn faster.

The Official Test and Testing Options

In person at a Service Center

You can take the Class E Knowledge Exam at a service center.

Right now, there may be limited services due to COVID-19 – be sure to check with your location in advance!

  At Home or In Class

Anyone under 18 years can take the Class E Knowledge Exam online at home or in a class. There are several approved third-party administrators that provide this service.

Make sure that you have a Parent Proctoring Form which must be notarized or signed in the presence of a driver license examiner.

If you pass an online test, your data is automatically forwarded to FLHSMV and this information will also be available at all driver license offices. You may still be selected for a mandatory re-test in a driver license or tax collector office before your permit or license is issued.

  Driver Education Class – DELAP

Through Driver Education Licensing Assistance Program (DELAP) many high school driver education classes are authorized to provide the knowledge exam.

If you pass your exam through an approved DELAP course in a public or private school, your teacher will submit your test records to FLHSMV’s database.

Contact your local high school to check if they are participating in DELAP.
