It is illegal to park within 50 feet of the nearest rail of a railroad crossing.

Crossroad. Another road crosses the highway up ahead. Look right and left for other traffic.

A steady red light means stop. Come to a complete stop before entering the crosswalk or intersection. You must remain stopped until the light turns green.

After coming to a complete stop, you may turn right on red unless there are signs forbidding the turn.

You may also turn left from a one-way street into a one-way street – unless there are signs forbidding the turn.

When you turn, you must yield to all pedestrians and vehicles using the intersection, including bicycles.

Driving is a privilege you have earned by passing the tests and paying the application fees.

You do not own your license. It is the property of the State of Oklahoma and can be denied, canceled, suspended, or revoked if you do not abide by the laws of the state of Oklahoma. Your driver’s license is your legal permission to drive a car or motorcycle on streets and highways in Oklahoma, the United States, and many places throughout the world. Take good care of your license and always carry it with you when you drive.

Avoid passing between a bicyclist and oncoming vehicles on a two-lane road. Slow down and allow vehicles to pass. Then move to the left to allow plenty of room to pass the rider safely. Remember, never pass a bicycle if the street is too narrow. Wait until there is enough room to let you pass safely.

The Do not enter sign tells you that the road or street ahead is for one-way traffic coming toward you. Do not drive into it. Remember that sign is square-shaped. It is not round.

The process of stopping your car has three main steps: perception, reaction and braking. This is usually referred to as stopping distance. The first 2 components are affected by human factors such as tiredness, alcohol, fatigue and concentration levels. The last component depends on factors such as: tires, brakes, weight, speed, road, and weather conditions.

White lane lines separate lanes of traffic moving in the same direction. Single white lines may also mark the right edge of the pavement. Dashed lines means that changing lanes and passing is permitted when safe. Solid white lines means that passing is hazardous and discouraged, as when you are approaching an intersection or merge area.

Avoid stopping on railroad tracks. Never move onto a railroad track unless you are certain you can drive across safely. Once you have started across the tracks, keep going.

By law, you must use your headlights at nighttime. Nighttime is from one-half (1/2) hour after sunset to one-half (1/2) hour before sunrise. You must also turn on headlights when, due to insufficient light or unfavorable atmospheric conditions, persons and vehicles on the highway are not clearly discernible at a distance of one thousand (1,000) feet or less.

Note: after sunrise and before sunset is daytime.

Turn from the lane that is closest to the direction you want to go and turn into the lane closest to the one you came from. When making turns, go from one lane to the other as directly as possible without crossing lane lines or interfering with traffic. Once you have completed your turn, you can change to another lane if you need to.

At four-way-stop intersections and at intersections without stop signs or signals, the car or truck that entered the intersection first has the right-of-way. When two vehicles approach at the same time, the driver on the left yields to the driver on the right.

Refusal to take the test upon request by a law enforcement officer will result in an automatic revocation of your driving privilege, even if you have not been drinking.

Remember, a trucker may not be able to see the road directly in front of the cab. If the tractor has a long hood, the trucker may not be able to see the first 10-20 feet of concrete in front of the bumper. This is plenty of room for a car to slip unnoticed into a dangerous position.

Crossing for disabled. Slow down and watch both sides of the street for individuals who may be crossing the road in a wheelchair.

Stay 3 seconds behind the vehicle in front of you. Allow 4 seconds or more in bad weather. With a safe following distance you give yourself time and distance to respond to problems.

Remember, under special circumstances, an officer may be directing the flow of traffic. If so, obey the officer’s signals instead of the normal traffic signals or signs.

First conviction or offense for driving under the influence (DUI), actual physical control (APC), or refusal of the breath or blood test, or a measurable amount of BAC, the revocation would be for a period of six months.

If your car stalls in a flooded area, abandon it as soon as possible. Flood waters can rise rapidly and sweep a car and its occupants away. Remember that six inches of water may be enough to cause you to lose control of your vehicle. When abandoning your vehicle, respect the force of the water.

As a general rule, if the car starts to skid, ease of the gas and slow down gradually. Take your foot off the brake and turn the steering wheel in the direction of the skid if you can do so without running off the road, hitting something, or steering into oncoming traffic.

In a collision you can be thrown out of the car. Seat belts keep you inside the car and safer.

Always signal when you slow down or stop. Normally, your brake lights let people know that you are slowing down. You may also use hand signals when signal lights are not working or cannot be seen by other drivers.

If the traffic light is red, stay where you are. Make room, if possible, but do not proceed into the intersection, unless directed to do so. Make sure you can hear any instructions or directions given.

A circular sign is used to warn that there is a railroad crossing ahead.

The upside-down triangle shape is exclusively used for yield signs. Slow down and, if necessary, stop to give the right of way to vehicles and pedestrians.
