Read Everything Carefully

A common mistake when studying is to try to memorize the exact answers or choices from your practice test. Don't fall into this trap!

Instead, you should get in the habit of reading everything twice. One answer may be correct when a certain question is asked, but wrong when you get another question. On the Ohio practice tests, you will see questions repeated with different wording and different choices. This is to help you be more aware of what is actually asked.

Remember, real Ohio BMV tests are created the same way. The exam questions are designed to make sure you fully understand your new responsibilities as a driver.

All questions on the test are multiple-choice (or true/false). If two choices seem possible, make sure you evaluate the question and all choices again. Only one choice is correct and acceptable. If two answers seem plausible, you are missing something.

This is true on both the sample test on this website and on the official Ohio BMV examination.

A good hint is to watch out for the word 'not'. You are not always asked what you should do, but also what you shouldn't do.

Questions about who should yield and who should be given the right-of-way are also easy to mix up, if you don't read everything carefully.
