Wyoming Knowledge Test
Who Must Take the Test?
You are required to take and pass a written test when you have never been licensed in this or any other state, when your driver license has been expired, or you have not driven for a period of two years or more.
You may also be required to re-take all tests after a revocation period. A driver examiner has the discretion to require the knowledge test, based upon personal observation, medical or vision information and other factors.
Wyoming Knowledge Test
A knowledge test consists of questions related to the class of license you are applying for. All questions are based on information found in the applicable driver's manual.
You must be able to identify traffic signs by shape, color or symbol, and identify signals and pavement markings. The test will also contain questions regarding seat belt usage, traffic laws, safety rules, crash prevention and vehicle equipment.
All tests are offered on a computerized system. Applicants who have difficulty reading may request to hear the questions through a phone system. If you prefer to use the audio system, you must ask the examiner to connect you with the system before you begin your written test.
You may only take the same written test twice in one day.
Wyoming tests are only given in English. If you cannot speak English, you may use an interpreter for the written tests.
Are You Ready for Your Drivers Permit Test?
Read the state Driver's Manual or Handbook. All real permit test questions are based on the material in this manual. Get familiar with all areas and learn the laws and rules presented. Pay special attention to facts that are bolded or highlighted.
Give yourself plenty of time. Start preparing at least two weeks before the real test.
Take several of our driver permit practice tests to make sure you are ready for the real examination.
Our Practice Tests
Our permit and license practice tests contain 25 questions. You must correctly answer 20 questions to pass (80%). This is a common passing score in most states. You should, however, aim for a score of 90% or more on a permit practice test.
Read all questions and answers carefully. You will see many DMV test answers, but do NOT focus on memorizing exact phrases - focus on understanding! The practice permit test questions may be repeated with several different alternatives and different wording. Real DMV permit test questions are created the same way.
All questions are multiple-choice or true/false. Only one alternative is correct and acceptable. If you see All of the above, None of the above, or similar as one alternative, make sure you evaluate all alternatives carefully.
