Common Confusion

No other signs create more confusion than the ones in this image.

40% of all incorrect answers on the road signs practice tests are related to Divided Highway Begins and Divided Highway Ends.

Divided Highway Begins (A)

The Divided Highway sign (Figure A) means the highway ahead will be divided. It is used when you approach a section of the highway (not an intersection or junction) where the opposing flows of traffic are separated by a median or other physical barrier.

The barrier is shown at the top of the sign.

Divided Highway Ends (B)

The Divided Highway Ends sign (Figure B) is used in advance of the end of a physically divided highway (not an intersection or junction) as a warning of two-way traffic ahead.

It means that the highway ahead is no longer divided by a barrier. You will on an undivided roadway with two-way traffic. Keep right.

The barrier is shown at the bottom of the sign.

Two-Way Traffic (C)

The Two-Way Traffic sign (Figure C) can also be used to give warning and notice of the transition to a two-lane, two-way section. In addition, the sign can used along such a road.
